How Was Podcast Movement in Denver?
I had a phenomenal experience at this year’s Podcast Movement conference hosted in my hometown of Denver. If you attended-how was the event for you? Did you have a good time? Let me know. It also looks like I will have up to 3 brand partners that I will be collaborating with as a direct result of my attendance at the conference. One of my goals when attending conferences is to always earn back any money invested in attending the event and then to grow my income beyond that. I’ll share more details about this next week.
Keep an eye out for my review of the event. I hope to share it sometime next week. In this week’s newsletter I’m sharing some thoughts about knowing when it’s time to change a project, good or service as you continue building out your online brand.

Podcasters Getting Paid
Last year I launched “Podcasters Getting Paid.” I’d spent the past 5 years prior to the launch talking about how to monetize your podcast platform at various podcasting events and just felt like I needed to approach that conversation differently. So, I decided to launch this Substack.
This newsletter/resource has exceeded my expectations.
Especially considering that I wasn’t feeling well for 8 months of the past year dealing with fatigue associated with long COVID.
For the past year I have:
Curated unique case studies from creators making money with their work.
Ran workshops.
Collaborated with brands (specific to this project)
Met community members in-person and online (including this week in Denver)
But one of the most important parts of creating community spaces, newsletters, products, etc. is assessing the project and deciding if it’s working, needs to change or should end.
Changes Are Coming to Podcasters Getting Paid
All good LOL!
In all of the wonderful feedback that I’ve gotten throughout the year about the content I’ve worked on for Podcasters Getting Paid-the most frequent comment shared with me is that it could help all digital content creators-not just podcasters.
This observation was something that I spent a lot of time reflecting on around January. For the past 8 months I’ve felt that the messaging of this project was almost too niched down and impacting its growth (even though Podcasters Getting Paid has grown nicely)
I have so much content (and incredible creators) that I would like to share but haven’t because I’ve felt like the current design of Podcasters Getting Paid made it difficult to share that additional content. With that in mind-I’m changing some things around.
What’s Changing?
Podcasters Getting Paid will continue to be “Podcasters Getting Paid” but, I am organizing it differently so that it’s a section of a bigger project. You (current subscribers) will NOT notice a difference other than you’ll have access to more content.
A slight rebrand-This will be completed over the weekend and I will announce that rebrand next week.
After this change new subscribers can choose if they would like to add “Podcasters Getting Paid” content to their subscription. Since you’ve already subscribed-nothing changes for you.
You will see TWO brand logos
The new comprehensive brand that I am announcing next week that will be the expanded brand name.
Podcasters Getting Paid will become a separate content section (Substack allows creators to run multiple projects under one brand separately-pretty cool!)
This change will expand the types of creators that I can share with you! I’ve begun setting up these conversations (many of these creators do have podcasts) and I’m so excited to share these conversations with you.
You MUST Evaluate Your Projects
One of the most challenging aspects of developing products, goods and services as a creative is that it takes TIME to assess. I gave myself a year to work on Podcasters Getting Paid and then evaluate if it was working for the people I was trying to serve with the project and then myself.
Ask Yourself the Following Questions:
Do I enjoy what I’m working on?
Is it helping people in the way that I thought it would?
Is the pricing working or deterring people from signing up or purchasing?
Are you happy with the growth?
Has it stalled out or is it growing?
Is it making money? Is that revenue stagnating, growing or dropping?
Are you reaching the people that you hoped to serve with your work?
Can I keep up with the cadence that I set for the project?
I’m talking about the publishing schedule
Attending Podcast Movement Validated The Changes I’m About To Make
I spoke with some individuals in the industry and they 100% understood why I was making the changes that I am working on. In fact, one person mentioned that they wished that they could make similar changes but that it would be too difficult to do because of where they are with their brand (it’s large, further a long than my project and it would be a huge PITA to change things at this point)
Because this project is still so young-the time is right to make these changes.
Attending Podcast Movement also reenergized and invigorated me to continue working on what I’m working on.
Things Change
I’m very excited about the growth of this project. The “slight” rebrand and the ability to continue growing this project. We’re transitioning from Summer to Fall right now-in fact, today is a rainy and moody day as I work on this newsletter here in Denver.
It feels like fall.
