Thanks for the transparency, Michelle. I'm thinking of sharing a similar 2024 overview, but the bad involves investing in a popular writers program that I felt provided no ROI. Given its popularity, do you think it's wise to out this program? I want to spare others from wasting money on it, but am worried about the potential backlash...
I had to think about your question for awhile and how I would answer it. I often will give reviews of programs, events, etc. I do not, however, in those reviews tell people to avoid a course or program.
Instead, I prefer to share what did and didn't work, how to figure out personal ROI as it relates to their own goals BEFORE deciding to say "yes" to a program.
A good example is an event that I traveled out of state for this year. While it was in some ways a good event, overall...it was a bad year for the event. I left saying to my friends that it would be a good idea for them to take a year off from the event (what actually ended up happening) I've never mentioned the name of the event. Other people loved it 🤷🏾♀️ In retrospect, there were a few things that I could have asked myself before saying "yes" to attending the event...that would have had me saying "no" to attending. It was still an adventure-just, not a good fit for me.
Were you able to give the writing program creator feedback? Did they address your concerns? I think about this because many of us who are creating programs, etc. are typically open to feedback direct from the students. Is the free stuff good? (I'm curious about that part)
That said...your experience was your experience and it's valid. Do your write up and if you are comfortable with the potential pushback (because you're aware that it's likely to happen) do what you feel comfortable with.
TLDR, the program's creator went ghost - haven't gotten a response to any of my emails in over two months, even though participants were promised support for at least one year. This is the negative icing on the cake. So even if I wanted to offer feedback idk if it'll be received...
Please run your workshop again. Publishing an ebook is on my goal list for 2025!
Noted! I ran it as a course, but it would work really well as a workshop. I'll plan on it.

Let me know what you decide 👀

This was such a thoughtful response, thank you!
