Next Week How to Get Media Coverage in 30 Days
Want Media Coverage?
Have you wondered how to get media coverage? I’ve had a lot and I’m going to be launching a series at the end of the month about media coverage. It’s going to ROCK and for the cost of a $5 monthly membership-well worth it.
Media Marketing Mastery Course for Paid Subscribers (part of the subscription-content will be behind the paywall) launches on June 26-June 30, 2023. Each day I will share tips on how to strategize your way to media coverage, what to consider and how it can grow your brand authority.
How to Take a Podcasting Break
I started my first podcast almost 7 years ago. I quit 2 times until I tried podcasting a third time and the third time was the charm. Then I proceeded to podcast for several years.
Consistently sharing episodes weekly.
It was both wonderful and exhausting. I create content about personal finance, but I lean into the issues of access, equity and policy-topics that require constantly reacting on a constant basis to laws being passed, struck down and weird pop culture events that have a direct influence on the content that I work on.
In all honesty, while this is a passion-it can be exhausting and after awhile I just need a break.
I’d taken a couple of breaks before but in February of 2023 I ended up taking a 5 month break. How did I take a 5 month break and still grow my show and still grow my show, receive accolades like being in Goodpods top 100 business podcasts (found out this week in June-photo below) and still work with brands. Here is what I do to allow me to take a break and define consistency on my terms.
7 Tips on How to Prepare for a Podcasting Break
Communicate with your audience-I actually recorded a podcast episode telling my audience that I planned on taking a break and why.
Be active elsewhere-I have other areas of focus within my brand platform. I was still tweeting on my Twitter feed (follow me here @MichLovesMoney) I talk about all things personal finance and money, social equity, policy, Star Trek/Pop Culture and unexpected happenings.
Design Content Intentionally-I’ve recorded so many podcast episodes and I have purposely worked on creating relevant episodes that are EVERGREEN. What do I mean? The topic is still relevant months and even years later. I talked about this during the Brand Partnership Workshops that I hosted this month.
Share your episodes-Sometimes we forget that we should be sharing our podcast episodes. I share my evergreen episodes weekly via my Twitter feeds, Facebook pages and other people share that content too.
Backlink to your previous episodes-Even though I was taking a break from producing my podcast, it didn’t mean I wasn’t creating other types of content or working on other types of partnerships. I link to that content everywhere-In my blog posts, social media feeds, etc.
Don’t promise what you cannot do-I’ve never shared a set publishing schedule. I try to consistently meet a certain publishing cadence, but I’ve never told my audience to expect content from me on certain days. I love having an “unschedule” Typically I try to publish an episode once or twice a week. My audience is perfectly happy with my cadence….and, I’ve won awards for my show.
Batch some mini-episodes-Before your break prepare some content for your break. If you’re truly concerned/worried about taking a long break, batch some episodes and repurpose shows you’ve already recorded. Remember your episodes are still new to someone and your audience members likely haven’t listened to all of your episodes.
Finally, be intentional about the content that you’re putting out there. Whenever possible flesh out an editorial calendar, speak with your audience and get a feel for what they want to hear from you. Run surveys. Ask questions. Feel no guilt about enjoying that break.
Grants for Creators
I love talking about all things monetization. But there is one area that I do not have expertise on and thats finding grants. I’m a proud user of Grants for Creators and I actively apply for grants in addition to the other ways that I monetize my overall brand. Keep in mind that there are some projects that a sponsor might not want to fund, but would be a perfect fit for a grant. This is a fantastic tool and I love using it.
