Before there was Creators Getting Paid there was Podcasters Getting Paid. I was primarily focused on helping podcasters rethink, reimagine and believe that they could get paid for their podcasting content and/or expertise. While I loved this project, I quickly grew really frustrated because I found podcasters (at that time) to be really resistant to the idea that they could get paid for their work. So I decided to make a pivot and I’m so glad that I did.
I decided to keep Podcasters Getting Paid as a sepeerate segment of my newsletter. Then I ended up not working on that segment. In retrospect, I accidentally overwhelmed myself. And I also felt a little bit disillusioned. Why were people so convinced that they couldn’t get paid for their creative work?
And real talk, I see this type of sentiment a lot on the Substack platform.
For awhile now podcast monetization has been on my mind as it becomes even clearer that the podcasting industry is here to stay and is growing.

Podcast Tool: Castmagic
I love using Castmagic for podcast editing. I run a number of different shows so having a tool like this is so helpful. It helps me to do the following:
Get rid of filler words (the AI is smart)
Create transcripts for episodes where I have a guest
Audio editing. Video transcript creation.
Need an AI assistant for your podcast? Castmagic may just be it for you and your show! Do you need video editing too? Make sure to check out Descript as well.
Some Podcasting Statistics
I pulled the following statistics from a 2025 Riverside industry report.
By 2026 it is projected that there will be around 619 million podcast listeners (In 2023 there were 450 million listeners)
$17.59 billion dollars is the projected podcast industry value by 2030 (5 years from now)
Almost 50% of podcast listens happen while the listener is multitasking: running earnings, cleaning, commuting or cooking
I’m a huge fan of podcasting for so many reasons and the statistics that I just shared are a huge reason why.
The Power of Podcasting
I love podcasts, in particular audio podcasting, so much. Hosts, thought-leaders and more can be heard by “The Masses” can sway public opinion (scary) educate, entertain and foster connection. This can’t be emphasized enough.
There are so many platforms for creators to create on: YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for video forward creators. Blogging/website building, Substack/Ghost/Beehiiv and Linked In for those who are passionate about writing.
Then there’s podcasting.
For me, podcasting is an audio forward experience. Audio focused podcasters are the equivalent of vinyl lovers. If you know you know.
I love that the experience of consuming a podcast typically relies on my sense of hearing and my imagination. The crackle of someone moving too close to the mic, that annoying noise people make when they smack their lips and the happiness or sadness in someone’s voice when they’re talking about a topic they care about.
What about Video Podcasts?
While I personally prefer an audio forward show and think of video podcasts as talk shows-it’s also my opinion that the host and their audience get to decide what they feel is a podcast.
Whichever format you decide on, I plan on talking about strategies to monetize your work and expertise.
Podcasting has been top of mind for me a for a couple of reasons.
I’ve rebranded my oldest podcast and brought it back after a 1 year hiatus. This is the third rebrand of this project over a ten year period.
I’m currently participating in the AirMedia New Voices 2025 Spring Cohort and am really enjoying meeting podcast industry professionals and making connections with the incredibly talented creatives who are a part of the program.
The third reason why I’m doubling down on podcasting is that it has (finally) proven itself to be “Big Business” I believe that podcasters are actually seeing that podcasting is an industry. Not just a creative space.
Time to Talk About Podcasting Again
It’s way past time to talk about podcasting, share the various opportunities in the space and to uplift the creative work that podcasters are sharing with their audiences.
Let me know what topics you’re hooping I’ll cover!
Michelle :)
