Recently, a potential brand partner reached out to me. I’d worked with the person on a previous partnership with another brand. Things looked like they were going well. Really well.
Then, crickets.
It is possible that I may hear from them again or might not…but, this is what happens when you work with brands. Sometimes they ghost you.
Am I a little annoyed? Yes. Will this impact how I work with brands in any way?
No.
Why? Because I understand that rejections, ghosting and random stuff will happen when working with brand partners. But, I also understand that it just takes a couple of “yeses” in a month, quarter or year to make a huge difference to someone’s podcasting business.
In fact, prior to this rejection I reached out to the manager of an affiliate program that had rejected my request. I’m in the beginning stages of working on a new podcast season that requires new affiliates and sponsors. The affiliate manager said “yes” to a meeting and then I shared the vision of the project that I’m working on and I SOLD THE IDEA TO THE MANAGER.
My only goal was to get approved for the affiliate program. What happened is that I might end up with a new brand sponsor for the project AND an affiliate partnership. You never know what can happen when you put yourself out there.
I made sure that the affiliate manager understood the following:
How the affiliate made sense for the project
How I work with a brand partner.
Different opportunities to work with me.
This person asked how much I would ask to be paid for a partnership-I told them. And, I didn’t stutter.
$500-$14,500 Per Collaboration
That is the range in pay that I’ve earned when working with brand partners. Brands I’ve worked with included:
Startups
Well-known financial services companies
Outdoor Apparel and Equipment brands
Cool digital tools
My podcast currently has 115,000 lifetime downloads.
What would surprise you is the following:
I don’t use the CPM model of payment. If I did, I would have been paid $500 based on the lifetime downloads for my show.
Only 2 of the brand partners I’ve worked with have asked for my episode downloads and they still said “yes” to working with me.
I get paid before starting any brand partnership.
