I love reading. There are very few types of books or topics that I wouldn’t have some curiosity about and wouldn’t enjoy checking out. In fact, the last time I visited my relatives (out-of-state) my Uncle asked if I was still writing stories. With that in mind, it’s probably not a shock to hear that I decided to write and self-publish books.

Resource Shoutout: Descript
Podcasting can be a lot of work. Making sure your show notes are done, editing the content and getting all of the marketing materials together. Maybe you’re not ready to hire a human virtual assistant (VA) but are looking for a digital one? DESCRIPT may be the tool for you. I was very fortunate to sit in during a live demo of DESCRIPT and I left with my mind blown. In fact, I loved it so much that I’m going to reach out to the team and see if they’re open to showing the Creators Getting Paid Community how to use it. If you’re looking for a cool AI tool that can help you speed up your podcasting workflow-consider checking out DESCRIPT.
Writing Non-Fiction Ebooks
While most of my comments will be focused on my romance ebook, I have written non-fiction ebooks. I think that they have the potential to be an important income stream that can do the following:
Solve a problem that your readers or community are dealing with.
Inform your audience and share a skill.
Provide insight
Entertain
Share unique experts that might not be referenced as often as others.
Tell readers story that normally won’t be told.
Written as a tool that people can use to help them work through a strategy.
Writing Fiction Ebooks
I Wrote a Romance
Yes, I really did. In fact, at this point I think I’ve written around 14 romances ranging between 5,000-50,000 words depending on the book and the purpose of the story. The shorter stories were for lead generation.
Creative writing is so much fun
And, it is possible to make money with your creative work. I was making money as a freelance writer, writing blog content and other written works. I decided to write a romance because I love reading them and noticed a strong trend and opportunity within the romance space.
Some things to consider about writing romance
The most lucrative niche to write in
There are so many audiences that are underserved in the romance space.
Self-publishing allows writers to write books within niches that they see an interest rate
Mission vs. Money
In the previous edition of Creators Getting Paid I reflect on the topic of Mission vs. Money. I’ve often felt very conflicted about leaning into my mission and worrying that earning money was at odds with the goals associated with my work. If you’ve struggled with this-read the episode and subscribe to learn how I’ve resolved this issue with my brand. It’s $5 or a cup of bougie coffee.
