One of the most difficult things that I’ve done in the past year is change my business back to its former business model. I’ve always loved waking up to money being deposited into my bank account via affiliate income, sales of digital products and other products that are a simpler lift for me to do.
The goal of Creators Getting Paid is to share strategies, case studies and tips on how to monetize our online facing businesses and brands. There are so many ways to monetize that it became a surprising area of tension as I built out my online business. Because I kept having to ask myself: what do I enjoy selling and how could I scale those income streams?

I love the simplicity of this tool, the look of the emails (they’re pretty) and I like the analytics provided by the platform. You can even sell products using Flodesk.
One To Many (Scaled Sales)
I’ve been slowly but surely shifting back to building and attracting “passive” income into my revenue streams. It has become clear to me that I’m more lit up when I can scale my efforts…effortlessly. There’s a reason why my word for 2024 is “Scale” This could look like the following in a digital business:
Affiliate sales
Digital resource sales
Courses
Books
Subscriptions
Memberships
Ads
In this edition of Creators Getting Paid, I'm specifically talking about ads. For those of you who run websites, placing ads on your content may be a way to bring income into your business. There are a number of different ad networks that help content creators monetize their websites. For this edition of the newsletter I’m sharing a new network that I’m hoping to work with.
Mediavine’s New Ad Network
With that in mind, I wanted to talk about Mediavine’s recent announcement of their new ad network “Journey.” I’m not an affiliate…yet!
What is Journey?
Put simply it is an ad network that content creators who run websites. Creators can qualify for Journey by hitting 10,000 sessions within a 30 day period. There are a couple reasons why I am excited about this new platform and I wanted to share where I would post these ads.
Website Creators aka “Bloggers”
If you run a website or platform about a unique topic, Journey could potentially be a way to begin sharing ads on your website. What I love about Journey as an opportunity for website builders:
Creators can qualify at 10,000 sessions vs. the 50,000 sessions for Mediavine
Creators can make their way into the Mediavine eco-system faster.
You’re incentivized as you make your way with towards qualifying for Mediavine and getting used to working with a team that seems to be adjacent to the Mediavine team.
The goal of hitting 10,000 feels a lot more attainable than the 50,000
But, once you hit that 10,000 you’re immediately incentivized to keep moving towards the 50,000 sessions.
I no longer refer to people who create and grow websites as “bloggers” because the term is pretty outdated. Website builders may be growing the following types of websites:
A personal brand-Perhaps you’ve built a massive personal brand and your website is getting thousands of hits a month from people searching about you and your work.
Jackie Aina the creator of Forvr Mood perfume is a great example of having a personal brand website that could be optimized for ads.
Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income website is another great example. It has been optimized in a number of ways including hosting podcasting show notes.
Do You Run a Website?
Are you quietly growing a secondary project or website behind the scenes? Or, do you have a website that you’ve been building and are known for? Have you monetized that site with affiliate links, digital products and other items? Journey may be a great opportunity to begin working adjacent to the Mediavine eco-system and a compliment to the other monetization strategies that you’re focusing on.
Where Will I Place My Ads?
I thought it would be helpful to share where those ads will be placed and what I’m working on behind the scenes in terms of a strategy.
