Why Creators Must Prioritize Rest
The day that I’m working on this newsletter I participating in a Twitter space. One of listeners brought up that they were struggling with balancing out how to show up all the time and the idea of consistency. Consistency is something that I reflect on often because as I go into my 11th year of creating content online.
Consistency has different seasons based on how your life is going. There are seasons as a content creator when you can focus and go all in because you’re energetically able to do so. There are other moments when you’re just unable to focus because there are other things going on. It’s ok. Here are a few ways to become consistent.
Create evergreen content that can be shared over and over again.
Have a content strategy-Be thoughtful about what you’re creating and clear about the outcomes that you’re focusing on for your audience and for yourself. Don’t wing it as a strategy.
Understand the ebbs and flows throughout the year that impacts the content that you’re creating.
Here are some examples below:
Personal finance space=January is BUSY for setting financial goals. You should have a lot of content ready for that time of year.
Travel-When are the high travel seasons in general and when are the high seasons for the location that you’re creating content on.
Politics-Whenever there’s an election season/cycle that is beginning (such as the 2024 US Presidential Election Cycle. In the US that means a year before content starts to uptick a year before)
Food-There is seasonality in food content creation. Today is the day before September and you better believe that Pumpkin Spice Lovers have been sharing content with pumpkin as a key ingredient in it.
Building a content creation business is a marathon not a sprint. This is why it’s so important to build an email newsletter so that you can communicate directly with the community or communities that you’re building. The fact that a content creation business is a marathon vs. a sprint also is why I often talk about tempering your expectations and being kind to yourself.
Batching is bae-I aggressively batch many components of the work/content that I’m doing so that if I have an opportunity to: hang out with my mom or my friends, go on a trip, go snowboarding or I just don’t feel like working that day that I can respect how I’m feeling.
Communicate with your audience-Recently I took a 6 month break from running my personal finance podcast. I love that show. But, I was just tired and didn’t feel like working on it for awhile. This break didn’t hurt my downloads. They stayed the same each month during that break-because I had content that I could share consistently because it was evergreen.
Podcast Movement Denver Review
I had an amazing time attending Podcast Movement Denver 2023. It was great attending an event in my hometown. I’ve included a link to my review of Podcast Movement here.
I Only Spent $10
It’s crazy to think about but I spent less than $10 the entire week. Love it!!! One of the things that I focus on when attending a conference is the following:
Keeping my overall conference spend LOW. I didn’t have to pay for transportation because the state of Colorado was at the end of a free transit program called Zero Fare for Better. I always want to be in the BLACK with the financial side of ad spend. I did stay one night at the hotel because my friend offered and then we had the infamous 4:00 am fire alarm LOL!
The most important thing for me related to conference attendance outside of meeting people, content, brand exposure/marketing and having fun-is to make money within 4-8 weeks after the event.
Podcasters Getting Paid Rebrand
Gentle Reminder :)
I’ve recently announced that I’m changing things around with Podcasters Getting Paid. I’m really excited about this next iteration of this project. I think that these changes will better serve my audience, open up the different creatives that I can work with for this project and will grow faster as I go into the second year of this project.
Over Labor Day weekend I will be finalizing the changes and hopefully will be done with them by Tuesday of next week.
Have a great weekend!
Michelle :)
