I’m slowly making my way through the 17 Lessons Learned from Making Money Online. I decided to break them up into a couple of different posts because it’s a lot to think about. Today I’m sharing 5 more lessons learned from making money online. Do these lessons resonate with you?
Lesson #6 Your Goals Are Too Complicated
At the end of 2022 I started spending a lot of time thinking about and reviewing the work that I was doing online. A huge part of this reflection was the unexpected realization that I was making things way too hard and that there was a reason why I found achieving certain goals harder than I felt they should be. For example: If you’re looking to grow a revenue stream then you have to simplify the steps that you’re taking to achieve that goal.
Lesson #7 Your Actions Don’t Match Your Goals
It’s one thing to say that you want to make money with the projects that you’re growing online, it’s another to take action aligned with those goals. Ask yourself the following questions:
Does what you’re focusing on actually give you the results that you’re looking for?
Have you set up systems to help you review what is and is not working to help you achieve your goal
Lesson #8 You Feel Like You Always Have to Be Seen
This one touches on something that social media has created which is-the belief that you constantly have to be seen in order to make money online. Many people are constantly tweeting, sharing videos and popping up on other platforms because it feels like you have to be seen. In reality this focus could take away from the tasks you need to focus on to grow income. Yes, I’m on social media, no I’m not on it all the time because it’s not what makes the money for me.
Lesson #9 Unrealistic Expectations
This one is so dang hard and probably one of the most significant mistakes that most people make when building a business online. I made this mistake too. There is a hope and belief that what you’re working on online will happen fast (fame, money, etc) In fact, the opposite is true. More often than not, the goals that online entrepreneurs are working on will take longer than they expect to achieve.
Lesson #10 Lack of a Strategy
What is your strategy? I am intentional about every single thing that I work on within my brand.
Let me share some examples below:
You’re looking to earn money as a speaker…but, you don’t have a system in place to get in front of speaking opportunities on a daily basis. And you’re not comfortable pitching so you hardly ever get asked to speak.
You want to make money with your website…but, you don’t release enough content for it to make money. And you don’t track that information.
You’re excited about monetizing a YouTube channel but…you don’t regularly release content in order to build momentum.
You need to set up systems, simple ones, to help you work towards your success.
I’ve Made So Many Mistakes
Don’t feel badly if you’ve made any mistakes. That’s part of the process of learning how to grow a business and monetize the work that you’re doing. I share these mistakes and lessons learned so that you know that you’re not alone.
